Professor Andrew Coulson will give a public talk based on the second edition of his book, Tanzania: A Political Economy, at Soma Book Cafe on Thursday, October 20 (5pm-7pm). He will show how much of what is happening now in Tanzania has its roots in the 1960s and 1970s when the state was very powerful but did not sufficiently address the issues of inefficiency and corruption. He will also discuss, among other things, the government's current strategies for industrialization and agribusiness. Copies of his book and recent papers on cotton and the textile industry will be available. You are all warmly welcome.
